The address still needs exact walking gradient, distance to the intended lift, vehicle approach, snow clearance and staff entrance. “Five minutes from the centre” can mean a level pavement or an icy hillside; request a mapped route, not a marketing radius.
Saanen is about 1,010 metres above sea level and has a protected historic centre. It can suit families and longer stays that benefit from a lived-in village rather than constant proximity to the promenade. Schönried, at roughly 1,230 metres, connects directly to Horneggli; Saanenmöser, near 1,270 metres, opens toward the region's large ski sector. Neither village should be described as ski-in/ski-out without a named piste, lift and access path.
Gsteig stands on the Col du Pillon route at about 1,200 metres and is useful for programmes oriented toward that valley and Glacier 3000. Arriving by rail, road or private aircraft
Gstaad Tourism lists Geneva Airport at approximately 2 hours by car and 2 hours 50 minutes by train. From Zurich Airport it gives about 3 hours by road and 3 hours 15 minutes by rail; Bern Airport is estimated at 1 hour 30 by car and 2 hours 30 by train. These are planning references, not chauffeur promises. Weather, traffic, engineering work and connections alter the day.
From western Switzerland, rail typically runs through Lausanne and Montreux toward Gstaad. The Bern-side route uses Spiez and Zweisimmen. A reservation should record carriage, change, luggage plan and the final village station. The MOB line continues among Château-d'Oex, Rougemont, Saanen, Gstaad, Schönried, Saanenmöser and Zweisimmen, making rail valuable for some local journeys.
A road transfer needs the actual chalet coordinates, not only “Gstaad”. Restaurant requests should follow the village and transport plan. A table in central Gstaad after skiing near Saanenmöser needs changing time and a reliable return.
