Luxury Private Islands

Start with a written privacy perimeter. “Private island” might mean no unrelated guests anywhere, exclusive resort accommodation while staff remain, or a private home surrounded by shared facilities. The contract must identify exclusive buildings, shores, jetties, vehicles and amenities, and who else may enter.

Exclusive island, residence or resort villa

North Island lists ten 450-square-metre Beachfront Villas and a 750-square-metre Villa North, each for up to four guests; exclusive use covers all 11 villas and the island. A booking still needs room assignments, child and visitor rules and confirmed staff presence.

Four Seasons presents Voavah as a seven-bedroom island for one group of up to 21, with a yacht, dive centre and spa. The Four-Bedroom Landaa Estate is instead a private residence inside shared Landaa Giraavaru. Both can suit; only the first is whole-island exclusivity. Review the North Island profile and Soneva Fushi profile, then request a dated offer.

For any option, obtain the bedroom and bathroom plan, maximum occupancy by age, accessible routes, pools, shoreline, staff quarters, service roads and any owner-retained area. Do not infer privacy from aerial photographs.

Transfers and arrival cutoffs

Island access can be the most restrictive part of the itinerary. Soneva Fushi publishes a roughly 30-minute seaplane transfer, with a 15:30 international-arrival target for its last 17:00 daylight departure. It also offers a domestic flight to Dharavandhoo followed by a short boat sector. The route depends on flight time, terminal process, baggage, seas and schedule.

Six Senses Zil Pasyon describes a roughly 20-minute, 55-kilometre helicopter flight from Mahé. Its published combined limit is 325 kilograms for no more than four passengers and luggage, with daylight operation; boat alternatives have their own timings and sea exposure. One&Only Reethi Rah’s booking terms distinguish shared luxury-boat transport for standard scheduled arrivals, private seaplane service and rules for private-jet guests. It requests at least 14 days for a private seaplane and says that transfer charges remain exposed to weather and early-departure terms.

A private jet itinerary can align the gateway but cannot create daylight or payload. The movement sheet should show touchdown, immigration, terminal change, cutoff, last operating window, baggage and an overnight fallback.

Occupancy, staff and inclusions

Define the legal guest count, daytime visitors, children, events and any staff brought by the party. Ask whether managers, chefs, hosts, engineers, marine crew, childcare or security live on island, remain on call elsewhere or rotate. Voavah, for example, says up to six private staff can stay off the guest area; that published possibility is not a staffing promise for another island.

Translate “fully staffed” and “all-inclusive” into names and schedules: meals, drinks, laundry, spa, diving, boats, fuel, equipment, childcare, taxes and gratuities. Confirm allergy controls and resupply cadence; remote islands cannot replace every ingredient, part or prescription on demand.

Events need separate written approval for guest count, sound, suppliers, temporary structures, marine access, fireworks, permits and restoration. Exclusive accommodation does not automatically include commercial filming or a celebration licence.

Medical, weather and operating continuity

Map the island clinic or first-aid provision, clinician hours, oxygen, medications, telemedicine, nearest suitable hospital and evacuation modes. Disclose mobility, pregnancy, allergies and medical equipment to qualified providers. REQUEST VIP can coordinate information but cannot decide fitness to travel or promise an evacuation time.

Weather can suspend seaplanes, helicopters and boats independently. Build a plan for a missed last transfer, delayed baggage, rough seas and a guest who cannot board the scheduled mode. Record who pays for gateway accommodation, changed flights, private alternatives and unused island nights under the actual contract.

Check potable water, power generation, backup systems, communications, storm shelter, seasonal closure and maintenance work. Privacy is meaningful only when the island can safely operate the requested services.

Terms and booking control

The dated proposal should identify the property owner or operator, exact product, exclusivity perimeter, bedrooms, maximum occupancy, staff, transfers, taxes, minimum stay and every inclusion. Ask for deposit, balance, security deposit, damage, visitor, event, cancellation, weather and force-majeure terms. Do not transfer funds on the strength of a marketing name alone.

Availability, price, complimentary benefits and upgrades remain unconfirmed until supplied for the named dates. Any alternative must be re-checked against the same privacy and access brief.

Does “private island” always mean exclusive use?

No. It may describe an exclusive island, a private residence within a shared resort or simply an island resort. The contract must state the guest and facility boundary.

Can REQUEST VIP guarantee a same-day seaplane transfer?

No. Daylight, weather, payload and the operating schedule control it. Soneva Fushi currently asks same-day seaplane guests to arrive in Malé by 15:30 for a last 17:00 departure.

Are staff included with an exclusive island?

Only the staff and hours listed in the dated offer. Confirm management, chefs, hosts, housekeeping, marine crew, childcare and security separately.

Can we hold a wedding or bring outside guests?

Only after written owner approval and checks for occupancy, vendors, sound, marine transport, permits, insurance and event charges. Exclusivity alone does not grant event rights.

What happens if weather stops the transfer?

The operator decides whether movement is safe. The plan should state gateway accommodation, rebooking, private alternatives and financial responsibility under the transfer and island terms.

Is emergency medical evacuation immediate?

It cannot be promised. Aircraft, boats, crews, daylight, weather and receiving care affect timing; verify on-island resources, insurance and the operator’s escalation plan.
