REQUEST VIP coordinates The Ghan luxury train request around direction, dated itinerary and cabin rather than a generic Australia rail ticket. In 2026 the northbound Adelaide–Darwin service and southbound Ghan Expedition differ in length and stops. Bed access, bathroom type, mobility, excursions and terminal connections should all be settled before confirmation.
Key Facts
- The Legendary Ghan from Adelaide to Darwin is currently published as three days and two nights aboard.
- The Ghan Expedition from Darwin to Adelaide is four days and three nights, adding Coober Pedy to the southbound programme.
- Gold Twin has upper and lower berths with a compact private en-suite; Gold Single uses shared shower and toilet facilities.
- Journey Beyond lists all-inclusive meals, beverages and selected Off Train Experiences, while optional flight or helicopter upgrades cost extra.
The Ghan Concierge Booking
Direction is the first booking decision. The 2026 Adelaide–Darwin schedule runs through Marla, Alice Springs and Katherine, with two train nights. The southbound Ghan Expedition includes Katherine, Alice Springs and Coober Pedy across three train nights. Journey Beyond also publishes shorter Adelaide–Alice Springs and Alice Springs–Darwin sectors, each with its own duration and experience set.
REQUEST VIP should return the journey name, endpoints, date, cabin, occupancy, fare conditions and operator status in writing. The luxury train hub provides context, but a web timetable does not reserve a place. March-to-November operation, departure days and arrival times are date-sensitive and need a final check.
Cabins, berths and bathrooms
Gold Single is designed for one guest: its seat converts to one bed, while shower and toilet facilities are shared at the end of the carriage. Gold Twin has a three-seat lounge by day and upper-and-lower beds at night, reached by a ladder, plus a compact en-suite shower, basin and toilet. This distinction matters more than the shared “Gold” label.
Gold Premium Twin also converts from seating to upper and lower berths and has a private en-suite, with dedicated dining and lounge areas. Some published configurations include a Gold Premium Suite with a three-quarter double, fold-down upper berth and separate lounge. Platinum converts from a daytime lounge to double or twin beds and offers a larger en-suite with separate shower. Journey Beyond's 2026 booking tables may additionally show Aurora and Australis Suites on selected departures. Ask for the exact floor plan and category available on the chosen train rather than assuming every consist is identical.
What is aboard and what is not
For the rail-only journey, the stated nights are aboard the train; city hotels before Adelaide or after Darwin are separate unless a named holiday package expressly includes them. Current core inclusions cover cabin accommodation, onboard dining, beverages and a selection of Off Train Experiences. The northbound programme names Marla, Alice Springs and Katherine; the Expedition adds the Coober Pedy day.
Optional scenic flights, helicopter trips and enhanced holiday packages are not implied by the rail fare. Confirm dietary requests, tour selection, luggage allowance, transfers, taxes, card fees, deposit, balance and cancellation rules on the dated proposal. A promotional city stay or upgrade has its own booking deadline and eligibility and should never be assumed.
Mobility, climate and terminals
The Ghan crosses hot, dry and tropical environments, while off-train activities can involve steps, uneven ground, coaches or boats. Journey Beyond publishes a Gold Access Cabin for wheelchair users and guests with low mobility, subject to availability and a fitness-to-travel assessment. Request it before paying; accessible cabin space does not automatically make every excursion suitable.
Gold Twin's upper berth requires a ladder, whereas Platinum offers beds at floor level. Send medical equipment, assistance and dietary details in advance. International guests remain responsible for Australian entry documents. Leave margin around rail arrival and use a chauffeur transfer rather than relying on a tight connection to a private flight.
Compare the daylight-and-hotel format of Rocky Mountaineer if sleeping aboard is unsuitable, or the altitude considerations of the Andean Explorer for a different long-distance rail brief.
REQUEST VIP has no corporate connection to Journey Beyond or The Ghan and acts only as an independent concierge, without endorsement or official partner status.
How It Works
- Share direction, dates, guests, cabin and bed needs, mobility, diet, luggage and connecting travel.
- REQUEST VIP asks for the named 2026 service, cabin status and complete conditions.
- Compare train nights, bathroom arrangement, excursions, optional upgrades, transfers and cancellation exposure.
- Authorise only after written operator confirmation, then add protected terminal and hotel logistics where required.
